DNS protection filters in HorizonVPN
3 min read·Updated September 16, 2026
Choose DNS leak protection and threat filters from the controls available to your plan and platform.
HorizonVPN's Security screen can apply DNS routing and filtering choices to a new VPN connection. Some threat filters require Premium access, and the controls shown can vary by platform and plan.
- DNS leak protection keeps supported DNS lookups on the VPN's DNS route
- Tracker blocker filters many domains associated with third-party tracking
- Malware shield filters known malicious domains
- Ad blocker filters many advertising domains at the DNS layer
- Family filter applies a stricter domain policy intended for safer browsing
- 1Open HorizonVPN → Settings → Security
- 2Enable only the protections you want and that the app shows as available
- 3Reconnect so the next connection receives the selected DNS policy
- 4If a legitimate site stops loading, disable one filter at a time, reconnect, and test again
DNS filtering cannot block every ad, tracker, unsafe page, or in-app request. It is not antivirus software, parental-control supervision, or a substitute for browser and operating-system updates.
