Setup guide: Router (DD-WRT / OpenWrt)

Configure HorizonVPN on your home router to protect every device on your network.

Installing HorizonVPN on your router protects every device simultaneously — including smart TVs, game consoles, and IoT devices that can't run a VPN app directly.

  • Requirements: router running DD-WRT, OpenWrt, or Tomato firmware
  • You'll need: HorizonVPN account credentials + OpenVPN config files from your dashboard

DD-WRT setup

  1. 1Log in to your router's admin panel (usually 192.168.1.1)
  2. 2Go to Services → VPN → OpenVPN Client
  3. 3Enable the client and paste your HorizonVPN .ovpn configuration
  4. 4Enter your VPN username and password
  5. 5Save and Apply — all devices on your network are now protected

Router VPN reduces connection speed due to the router's limited processing power. Consider a router with AES-NI hardware acceleration for better performance.
