DNS leak — what it is and how to fix it
3 min read·Updated May 25, 2026
Understand DNS leaks and verify HorizonVPN is protecting your DNS queries.
A DNS leak occurs when your DNS queries are sent through your ISP's servers instead of through the VPN tunnel, potentially revealing your browsing activity even while connected to a VPN.
How to test for DNS leaks
- 1Connect to HorizonVPN
- 2Visit dnsleaktest.com
- 3Click "Extended Test"
- 4All DNS servers shown should belong to HorizonVPN — not your ISP
If you see your ISP's DNS servers
- 1Go to Settings → DNS
- 2Ensure DNS Leak Protection is enabled
- 3Set DNS to "HorizonVPN DNS" (not system default)
- 4Disconnect and reconnect the VPN, then test again
HorizonVPN runs its own zero-log DNS servers. Your DNS queries never leave our encrypted network.
