The details that make a difference
Cloud Chats and Secret Chats differ
Telegram’s FAQ distinguishes client-server encryption for Cloud Chats from end-to-end encryption for Secret Chats. A VPN does not convert the chat type or change Telegram’s account and storage model.
Secret Chats are device-specific
Telegram warns that logging out loses the Secret Chats on that device. Avoid signing out or reinstalling as the first response to a connection problem when those conversations matter.
Login codes are a separate step
Telegram may deliver a login code through an existing session or another method it offers. Check the official login instructions and your active sessions; network routing cannot remove account limits or guarantee SMS delivery.

Is every Telegram chat end-to-end encrypted?
No. Telegram distinguishes Cloud Chats from end-to-end encrypted Secret Chats. A VPN protects a different network segment; it does not turn a Cloud Chat into a Secret Chat or change how Telegram stores it.
Why does Telegram stay on Connecting?
The device may have a failing route, an unavailable in-app proxy or a broader network problem. Compare a fresh message on the same device, saving proxy settings before changing them. Old chat history may still be visible offline.
Should I turn off my existing Telegram proxy?
For a controlled comparison, you can temporarily disable it after recording the configuration. Test one VPN route without adding several simultaneous changes. A Telegram proxy and a device VPN are separate tools with different scope.
Can a VPN fix a missing login code or account limit?
It may help reach the service when the network fails, but it cannot deliver ordinary SMS or reverse a Telegram limit. Follow the login method and waiting period shown, and check existing signed-in devices first.
Should I sign out to repair the connection?
Avoid doing that first. Telegram says signing out loses that device’s Secret Chats. Try reopening, comparing networks and checking the proxy before any destructive step; keep recovery access available if an account action is necessary.
