YOUR CONNECTION, YOUR POSSIBILITIES

Spotify with Horizon: keep account country and connection separate

Use Horizon on a supported phone or computer to manage the connection for Spotify listening. When music stops during travel, first distinguish a network failure from your account’s country and the track’s availability.

Features and device limits depend on your plan. Choose the setup that fits your device.

The short answer

Spotify Premium includes travel listening without changing account country simply for a trip. Free users should check the current country and travel requirements for their account, particularly if an abroad warning appears. Horizon does not update account settings, supply Premium or add tracks that rights holders have not made available in your market.

Make more of your connection

Cover your actual music player

Use a native Horizon app for the configured connection on a supported phone or computer. The browser extension covers supported web-player traffic in that browser, while the desktop and mobile Spotify apps need their own device route.

Avoid unnecessary account changes

Check whether you are on a short trip or have moved permanently. Spotify’s country settings and payment instructions address the account; repeatedly changing VPN locations does not complete that process.

Diagnose one listening problem

Compare the same track and player when testing a connection. If only one song is greyed out, inspect availability; if everything stops, check offline mode, the app and the network before changing your subscription.

Free travel needs an account check

If Spotify displays a travel or country warning on a Free account, use its current official account guidance. Check whether you are travelling or have moved; do not assume a network-location change updates the account.

Country changes have account steps

Spotify describes a settings process for changing country or region. Premium users moving countries may need a payment method issued in the new country; changing IP does not change a card’s issuing country.

Missing music can be a rights issue

Spotify explains that music and podcast availability can vary over time, by country and by rights-holder permissions. A missing or greyed-out item is not automatically a broken connection.

Get connected, step by step

  1. Read the account message

Check Free versus Premium, your account country and any travel warning Spotify displays. For a permanent move, use Spotify’s official country-change process rather than treating the message as a connection failure.

  2. Connect the right player

Use the native Horizon app for supported mobile or desktop listening, or the browser extension for the web player. Avoid expecting a browser-only route to cover the separate Spotify app.

  3. Compare an available track

Play the same available track and test seeking and the next item in the queue. Check offline mode and the exact error; compare another permitted network to isolate an overall connection issue.

Your questions, answered

Does Spotify Premium need a VPN simply for travel?

Spotify’s country guidance allows Premium use while travelling without changing country settings just for a trip. A VPN may be a connection choice on supported devices, but it is not an additional Spotify travel entitlement.

What does the 14-days-abroad warning mean?

Treat it as an account-country restriction and follow Spotify’s current official account instructions for your situation. Check whether you are travelling or have moved. Repeatedly changing network locations does not update the account or guarantee the warning disappears.

Does changing IP change my Spotify country?

No. Country or region is an account setting with its own process. For a permanent move, Spotify may require payment details from the new country for Premium; a VPN cannot issue a local payment method.

Why is a song unavailable when other music plays?

Availability depends on the item, market and rights-holder permissions and can change over time. Check the exact release and account settings. Other songs playing normally suggests you should investigate that item before the whole connection.

Does Horizon include Premium or cheaper Spotify billing?

No. Spotify subscriptions and pricing are separate from Horizon. A new network address does not grant Premium, change payment eligibility or guarantee another market’s prices; use Spotify’s official billing and country settings.
