YOUR CONNECTION, YOUR POSSIBILITIES

Sports streaming with Horizon: prepare before the first whistle

Use Horizon to manage a supported viewing connection before the event begins. Confirm the broadcaster, your subscription and the device first, then test live playback with enough time to resolve a genuine network problem.

Features and device limits depend on your plan. Choose the setup that fits your device.

The short answer

A sports subscription does not necessarily include every match in every location. Broadcast rights, local blackouts and service-specific VPN rules can prevent a live event even when other videos play. Horizon changes the connection route; it does not add event rights, remove a blackout or guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.

Make more of your connection

Check the event you will actually watch

Find the official broadcaster for the event and your viewing location. Confirm the match is included in your plan rather than relying on a league logo, a highlights page or a subscription’s general sports description.

Prepare the viewing device early

Use the native Horizon app on a supported device or the extension for supported browser playback. A television without an app needs a confirmed compatible route; a phone connection does not automatically cover it.

Compare stability before kickoff

Test an available live stream at a realistic quality, with other downloads paused. Keep the device and stream fixed while comparing routes so you can tell a delivery issue from a rights or account message.

The details that make a difference

Blackouts are broadcast-rights rules

NBA League Pass explains that local and national blackouts depend on exclusive broadcast rights and location, with different rules in the US and Canada. Network connectivity alone does not establish live-game eligibility.

A VPN can trigger a service error

NBA’s error 7027 guidance names VPN, proxy and obscured-location connections as unsupported. Other services set their own rules; a new exit address is not a universal solution to live-sports restrictions.

Replay success does not prove live access

Live and on-demand rights can differ. Netflix, for example, specifically excludes live-event VPN viewing, even though some on-demand viewing may be available under its VPN catalogue rules.

Get connected, step by step

  1. Confirm the match and entitlement

Check official event and broadcaster information for the date and viewing location. Verify the subscription includes that live match and review any blackout or device requirements.

  2. Set up the supported route

Connect Horizon using the app or browser method that covers your actual player. Confirm a TV’s Smart DNS compatibility and supported destination separately, before match day if possible.

  3. Test live and keep the error

Run a representative live session before kickoff. If an explicit proxy, blackout or entitlement message appears, follow the broadcaster’s official guidance; record buffering separately from access restrictions.

Your questions, answered

Does my sports subscription include this match abroad?

Check the official broadcaster and plan for your current viewing location. Rights can differ by event, country and live versus replay coverage. A home subscription or VPN connection does not establish that the match is included.

Why is a game blacked out when other videos work?

Blackouts can apply to a specific live game because another broadcaster has exclusive rights. Check the league or service’s current blackout guide. A functioning connection and playable highlights do not remove those event-specific rules.

Can a VPN cause a sports-streaming error?

Yes. Some services explicitly reject VPN or proxy routes; NBA identifies this in error 7027 guidance. Follow the service’s instructions and use a permitted connection rather than assuming the error means Horizon failed to connect.

Does a working replay prove the live event will work?

No. Replays, highlights and live broadcasts can have different rights, delivery paths and VPN rules. Test a representative live stream and check the exact event’s requirements before relying on a successful on-demand test.

What should I test before kickoff?

Verify the event entitlement, device, sign-in and actual live playback. Check audio, picture stability and any casting setup you intend to use. Keep the exact error and an official support link available if a service restriction appears.
