Use Horizon to manage a supported device or browser connection, then check which Hulu service and plan you use. Hulu US, Hulu Japan and Live TV location requirements need different answers.
Features and device limits depend on your plan. Choose the setup that fits your device.
The short answer
Start with the correct service market. Hulu US and Hulu Japan are separate services; an account or subscription should not be assumed to transfer. Their official help describes VPN or proxy connections as unsupported. Horizon can change a network route, but it cannot supply account eligibility, a Live TV Home location or regional viewing rights.

Check whether the failure concerns on-demand video or a live channel. Live TV adds Home and location requirements that a working browser session or changed public IP does not resolve.
Use the actual device route
Use a native Horizon app on supported devices. The extension covers supported viewing inside that browser only. Confirm a television’s own supported path before judging it by the status on another screen.

The details that make a difference
US Hulu has market requirements
Hulu’s US help describes a US household service with US-issued payment requirements and additional Live TV location restrictions. A VPN is not an account-registration or payment eligibility tool.
Japan has its own error guidance
Hulu Japan documents unsupported outside-Japan and VPN/proxy connections, including location-related error codes. Use that service’s current help rather than applying US Live TV instructions to a Japanese subscription.
Proxy errors are explicit restrictions
US Hulu also says anonymous proxies are unsupported. If a proxy message appears, follow the service’s official instructions; rotating locations is not a reliable way to diagnose account or rights issues.

Choose the appropriate connection
Use Horizon’s native app or browser extension for its supported scope. For a television without an app, confirm Smart DNS device/destination compatibility before changing the network configuration.
Test the same programme
Follow the service’s VPN/proxy guidance and compare on a permitted direct connection. If a Home, entitlement or payment message remains, address that requirement through Hulu’s official account help.

Is Hulu Japan the same subscription as Hulu US?
No. Treat them as separate services with their own accounts, plans and eligibility rules. Check the official market before purchasing or troubleshooting; similar branding does not make your existing subscription transferable.
What does an anonymous-proxy message mean?
Hulu is identifying a connection type it does not support. Follow the market’s official instructions and compare on a permitted connection without the VPN or proxy. A connected Horizon session does not guarantee Hulu playback.
Does a VPN change my Live TV Home?
No. A public IP change does not perform Hulu’s Home setup or replace its location rules. Check the official Live TV requirements for your account and use the supported Home process when applicable.
Can Horizon provide an eligible payment method?
No. Your Hulu billing arrangement is separate from the VPN connection. US-issued payment and other market requirements must be met through Hulu’s accepted methods; selecting an exit does not change where a card was issued.
Should I clear all cookies when playback fails?
First record the exact error, service market, account and plan. A rights, Home or proxy restriction is not solved by deleting unrelated browser data. Use targeted site troubleshooting only when the official guidance calls for it.
