Check the mailbox before the app
Open Gmail on the official website and inspect a fresh message. If browser mail works while the app remains stale, investigate the app’s sync and sign-in state instead of changing the mailbox itself.
YOUR CONNECTION, YOUR POSSIBILITIES
Use HorizonVPN when Gmail cannot load or sync on a particular network. Check the browser inbox, send a small test message and compare your mail app so you can separate connectivity from Google account access.
Features and device limits depend on your plan. Choose the setup that fits your device.
A different route can help reach Gmail when the network path is failing. It does not restore a disabled Google account, remove Workspace administrator rules or deliver a message that the mail service rejected. Connect HorizonVPN on the device running the mail app; its browser extension covers supported webmail traffic only within that browser.

Save a draft and send a short non-sensitive test to an address you control. Inspect the sent result and any delivery notice; a blank inbox, an unsent draft and a rejected message have different causes.
A changed route can make a sign-in appear unfamiliar. Review alerts through Google’s own account pages and keep recovery methods available; a VPN is not a reason to ignore a security notification.
KNOW YOUR SERVICE
Google advises checking security alerts and account activity. Compare the device and time with your own actions, and secure the account when activity is unfamiliar rather than treating every alert as a connection error.
A work or school account may have organization-controlled access rules. A VPN cannot grant permission that the administrator has withheld; use your organization’s approved access process for those messages.
Gmail’s transport and account protections are separate from the VPN tunnel. A VPN does not automatically add end-to-end encryption to every message or remove the service’s access to stored mail.
See the setup
Keep unsent text safe, confirm basic internet access and open Gmail’s official website. Note whether sign-in, loading, sending or receiving fails, including any Google or Workspace instruction.
Choose an available HorizonVPN route on the phone or computer running the app. Start with Auto. For webmail only, the extension can route supported traffic in its own browser.
Refresh the inbox and send a short test. If webmail works but the app fails, update and check sync or sign-in using Google’s guidance. Review security alerts and redact addresses before reporting a connection issue.
What to check
| What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|
| Gmail web works, the app remains stale | Check sync, app version and Google sign-in. A browser-only connection does not cover the native mail application. |
| Google asks you to confirm the sign-in | Review the device, time and activity through official Google account pages. Keep recovery codes private. |
| A message bounces or an administrator denies access | Read the delivery or organization notice. Network routing does not override server-side policy. |
Tell our team the service, device, network and exact error. We can help you find the right connection method without sharing passwords.
Get connection supportGoogle may need to confirm an unfamiliar sign-in. Review the alert against your own device and activity, then complete the official process. Do not dismiss a genuinely unknown sign-in just because you changed network routes.
No. Google controls account recovery and appeals. A working connection may let you reach its help pages, but you must still complete the required recovery steps for the affected account.
No. It covers supported traffic in its own browser. Use the HorizonVPN app on the device for Gmail mobile or another native mail client, then check that app’s authentication and sync separately.
No. The VPN creates a network tunnel for the traffic it covers. Message encryption and mailbox access depend on Gmail, the recipient and any additional email-security features in use; they are not changed by connecting the VPN.
No. Organization access policy and account permissions remain in force. If Gmail displays an administrator or device-management instruction, contact your organization through its approved process rather than trying repeated location changes.
