YOUR CONNECTION, YOUR POSSIBILITIES

Nintendo Switch: choose the right connection route

For Nintendo Switch, start with the console’s actual network path: supported-destination Smart DNS or a separately confirmed VPN connection through network equipment.

Features and device limits depend on your plan. Choose the setup that fits your device.

The short answer

There is no Horizon app to install directly on Nintendo Switch. Before choosing a plan for this device, confirm the console model, game or service and usable setup with support. Smart DNS can route supported destinations on compatible setups; it is different from encrypting the console’s entire connection through a VPN tunnel.

Choose by console and task

Identify the exact Switch model and whether you need online play, eShop access or a particular supported app. These tasks can have different account requirements and network behavior.

Understand the scope you receive

Smart DNS is a destination-routing option, not a promise that every game uses a tunnel. A full VPN route requires a compatible, confirmed setup carrying the console’s traffic.

Confirm before reconfiguring the network

Give support the console and router models plus Wi-Fi or Ethernet details. This makes it possible to assess the real route before changing settings for the whole household.

eShop follows Nintendo Account country

Nintendo documents eShop country through the Nintendo Account country setting. A new public IP does not update that setting or remove balance and payment-region conditions.

Subscriptions may affect country changes

Nintendo’s subscription guidance describes restrictions linked to automatic renewal. Review the current account requirements before attempting a legitimate country change, especially if an active subscription is involved.

A phone hotspot is a separate path

Connecting a console to a phone’s hotspot does not establish that tethered traffic inherits the phone’s VPN. The specific phone, operating system and sharing method must be confirmed.

Get connected, step by step

  1. Describe your exact setup

Record console model, system version, game or app, error code and network type. Check Nintendo and the game publisher’s service status, then test the console’s ordinary internet connection.

  2. Confirm the supported method

Ask Horizon support whether the named destination and setup can use Smart DNS or a supported network VPN route. Check your plan’s feature access; use instructions specific to the confirmed method.

  3. Verify the console itself

After applying the confirmed setup, test the actual game or app on the console. Record joining, stability and errors. If using Smart DNS, keep required address authorization current and avoid assuming all console traffic is encrypted.

The console connects but a game does notCheck that game’s online-service status, entitlement and exact code. The system internet test does not prove matchmaking or supported-destination routing.

Your questions, answered

Can I install Horizon directly on Nintendo Switch?

No native Horizon Switch app is provided here. Start by confirming a supported network method for your exact console and task. Do not purchase on the assumption that a phone or desktop installation automatically covers a Switch.

Does Smart DNS encrypt the whole console?

No. Smart DNS routes supported destinations on compatible setups and does not provide a full-device encrypted tunnel. Ask whether your actual game or app is supported; DNS configuration alone cannot establish that every connection uses Horizon.

Will my phone’s VPN cover its hotspot?

Do not assume it. Tethered traffic and the phone’s own traffic can follow different paths. Confirm the phone model, OS and supported sharing method, then test the console rather than relying on the phone’s VPN indicator.

Can a VPN change my Nintendo eShop country?

eShop country follows Nintendo Account settings and eligibility. Nintendo may apply balance, payment and subscription conditions. Use its official process for a genuine account-country change; selecting a network location does not satisfy those requirements.

What should I confirm before choosing a plan?

Confirm the exact console model, intended game or app, supported setup and relevant plan feature. Ask how to verify the route on that console. A browser-only extension or a generic router tutorial does not establish a usable Nintendo connection.
